Germany’s Fuchs boosts position in Italy by acquiring Welponer

Germany’s Fuchs Group, which operates globally in the lubricants industry, has acquired the lubricants business of Welponer SRL in Bolzano, Italy, as of October 1, 2020, and will integrate it into its subsidiary Fuchs Lubrificanti S.P.A.

As a longstanding trading partner of Fuchs, Welponer generated sales revenues of around EUR4 million (USD4.7 million) in the financial year 2019. The acquisition includes the customer base and the workforce in particular. Welponer’s business complements Fuchs’ existing business in Italy. This bundling of sales channels makes Fuchs Lubrificanti S.P.A. a central and authoritative partner for all lubricants and related specialties in Italy.

The activities of Welponer, the exclusive distributor of various products lines of Fuchs Lubritech GmbH and Bremer & Leguil GmbH in Italy have been transferred to Fuchs Lubrificanti S.P.A., a Fuchs Group company based in Buttigliera d’Asti, located about 20 kilometres southeast of Turin. Fuchs Lubrificanti S.P.A. has been present in Italy since 1982, with a manufacturing plant and a research center, with about 100 employees and an annual turnover in excess of EUR75 million (USD87.8 million).

Welponer has been present in the Italian market for more than 50 years, with a high specialisation in tribologically advanced solutions.

With this latest acquisition by the Fuchs Group, the largest independent lubricant company in the world strengthens its position in the Italian lubricants market. Fuchs Lubrificanti will be able to extend its business into additional market segments such as cement, ceramic and minerals in the processes of grinding and cooking, production and distribution of electricity, components for cars, rail transport, wind power sector, cableway sector, molding of plastic, construction sector – earth moving and other special applications.
