Gentari launches first EV charging points with Evolt in Thailand
Gentari Sdn Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, and Evolt Technology Company Limited, a Bangkok, Thailand-based electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure provider, have activated their first jointly-installed EV charging points in Thailand.
At a special ceremony held to mark the launch, Gentari was represented by Chief Executive Officer Sushil Purohit, and Chief Green Mobility Officer Shah Yang Razalli. Evolt was represented by Chief Operating Officer Kanchalerm Earsakul.
The installation of the new charging points at Exchange Tower, a commercial building located in Bangkok’s fast-developing Khlong Toei district, follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Gentari and Evolt earlier this year.
Under their MoU, Gentar, the clean-energy arm of Malaysia’s state-owned oil and gas company, PETRONAS, will collaborate with Evolt to explore new areas of co-development and co-investment to expand EV charging infrastructures, as well as other potential green mobility and clean energy solutions, across Southeast Asia.
“The collaboration with Evolt has been a thrilling endeavour, as we leverage their market leadership to propel Gentari’s maiden venture into regional infrastructure development in Southeast Asia. Our bigger goal is to bolster our green mobility network across key markets in Asia Pacific, and this partnership plays a crucial role in achieving that objective, while driving the transition towards sustainable mobility in the region,” said Razalli.
“We are excited to celebrate the launch of the Gentari charging station. This represents a significant milestone in our commitment to provide convenient, reliable, and sustainable charging options for electric vehicle owners. This station is the latest example of our dedication to innovation and sustainability, and we are proud to offer our customers cutting-edge technology and exceptional service. We believe that this station will play a vital role in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. We remain committed to lead the way in the transition to a cleaner and greener future of transportation,” Kanchalerm said.
In Thailand, Evolt’s network comprises more than 10,000 installed AC and DC chargers across the nation’s 77 provinces.
Maintaining pace in growing EV charging network
Since its introduction in June 2022, Gentari has made rapid progress in expanding its Green Mobility network. As of 18 May 2023, Gentari through its affiliated entities, has deployed more than 150 charging points in Malaysia and in excess of 170 charging points in India, in addition to the three new charge points in Thailand.
With a mission to be Asia Pacific’s preferred green mobility solutions provider, Gentari aims to capture 10% market share (circa 25,000 charging points based on current estimates) across key markets in Asia Pacific by 2030. In the mid-term, Gentari aims to install 9,000 public charging points by 2026, with an anchored presence in Malaysia and India.
