FUCHS launches 100% recycled packaging for automotive products
In a major stride towards sustainability, FUCHS Group, the world’s largest independent lubricant manufacturer, has launched new packaging for its automotive aftermarket range made entirely from 100% recycled post-consumer (PCR) materials. This eco-friendly packaging initiative will see more than five million recycled bottles distributed across Europe by the end of the year, with plans for a global rollout.
The move aligns with FUCHS’ commitment to reducing fossil-based packaging materials and lowering carbon emissions. Each one-litre and five-litre bottle now boasts a 68% lower CO2 footprint compared to previous packaging without recycled content. This achievement results from a close collaboration with suppliers to improve production technology, streamlining the process without compromising quality.
This packaging project forms part of FUCHS’ broader ACT (Advanced Circular Technologies) programme, which aims to minimise fossil material usage and promote circular material use. In addition, FUCHS has set ambitious goals to reduce its cradle-to-grave emissions by at least 90% by 2030 compared to 2021 levels, working towards a net zero target by 2040. Within its own operations, the company has already reduced its corporate carbon footprint by nearly 15% since 2021.
Bastian Keller, head of Global Product Management for Automotive Lubricants at FUCHS, remarked that achieving this 100% recycled materials milestone is a significant step. Through a phased approach, we’ve gathered valuable experience and customer feedback to ensure our sustainable packaging meets both customer needs and environmental standards, he said.
Beyond packaging, FUCHS has also committed to using 100% green electricity by 2025, with more than 50% of its energy already sourced from renewable resources as of 2023.
