THE EUROPEAN LUBRICANT MARKET – AN OVERVIEW

In 2016, Dr. Valentina Serra-Holm was elected President of UEIL (The Union of the European Lubricant Industry), which is the strongest representative body for manufacturers of lubricants in Europe and aims to ensure a growth-oriented business and investment climate for its members and the industry in Europe. Through its members, UEIL represents the interest of more than 400 companies from 20 different countries.

Dr. Serra-Holm has an extensive background in the European lubricants market, having joined current employer Nynas AB in 2001, a world-leading producer of naphthenic specialty oils, where she currently holds the position of Global Marketing and Technology Director. Prior to this Dr. Serra-Holm earned not one but two PhDs, in Chemical Reaction Engineering from the Abo Akademi University in Finland in 2000 and in Chemical Plants from the Polytechnic of Turin in Italy in 1997.

UEIL market statistics provide a comprehensive view of the European lubricant industry, by supplementing official data from countries where they are made available with estimates calculated based on a sophisticated algorithm. Dr. Serra-Holm will present an overview of the European Lubricant Market during F+L Week 2018 in Macao, including a range of challenges the European lubricant industry is facing, from e-mobility to 3D printing.  Opportunities presented by a continuous drive towards quality and sustainability will also be discussed, concluding with a general outlook for the entire industry and a special focus on the major markets in the region.
