UMW Grantt unveils eco-friendly biodegradable food-grade grease
UMW Grantt International, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s UMW Group, has introduced a new biodegradable multi-purpose food-grade grease, marking a significant step towards eco-friendly machinery operation. The product is a blend of proprietary food-grade additives and environment-friendly base oil, offering a sustainable solution especially designed for the food manufacturing industry.
Anas Nasrun Mohd Osman, group director of UMW Manufacturing and Engineering, highlighted the grease’s non-toxic nature and safety, even in direct contact with food. This innovation is Malaysia’s first of its kind, combining an eco-conscious formula with efficiency and safety. The grease is expected to enhance production efficiency, extend equipment life, and ensure safety during incidental food contact.
UMW Grantt is initially targeting the local market, focusing on sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic, before expanding its reach to the broader ASEAN region. The grease boasts features like excellent oil separation, high dropping point, and stability at elevated temperatures.
Iskandar Mohamed Salleh, general manager of UMW Grantt International, emphasised the broad application of the biodegradable food-grade grease, especially among food companies and machinery operators. The product is competitively priced and is currently available for market testing in 400g packaging.
Developed in collaboration with UMW Innovation and R&D Centre, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, and MR Multitech, the grease aligns with the growing shift towards eco-friendly products in business operations, contributing to the Environmental, Societal, and Governance (ESG) agenda.
The product meets international standards including DIN 51825 and OECD 301B and is expected to receive its halal certification by year-end. It has also earned the MyHijau certification, a green recognition endorsed by the government, and complies with Good Manufacturing Practice.
The launch of the Grantt Multi-purpose Food Grade Grease, officiated by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Datuk Seri Huang Tong Si, underscores UMW Grantt’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the delivery of eco-friendly solutions to the market.
