Shell unveils new lubematch website
5 December 2011 – LONDON – Today, Shell Lubricants announces the launch of its new, improved Shell LubeMatch online oil selector service. With user-friendly navigation and easier-to-digest page layouts, this online service recommends the right choice of Shell engine oils and lubricants for any given vehicle, and has been designed especially for the busy workshop environment.
In addition to identifying oils that meet the manufacturer’s specifications, Shell LubeMatch (www.shell.com/lubematch) provides jargon-free guidance on the relative benefits of different Shell products. This enables car maintenance professionals to provide value-add expert advice to customers in their choice of oil without having to spend lots of time keeping up-to-date with the latest products and technology. Using Shell LubeMatch during the sales process can help customers understand the benefits of upgrading their oil – including increased protection, extended oil drain intervals, lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency.
Searching by vehicle type, make and model – an easy three-step process – Shell LubeMatch provides recommendations for leading Shell Lubricants brands such as Shell Helix for cars, Shell Advance for motorbikes and Shell Rimula for trucks and heavy-duty diesel engines.
The website is delivered through a global platform available across 120 countries and in 26 languages, making it the most comprehensive and integrated lubricant selection tool available from any of the major oil companies. It is an open-access site and is also available to drivers.
Louise Horobin, Global Brand Manager at Shell Lubricants, comments: “For many of our customers, lubricants form an important part of their aftermarket revenue stream. We also know, however, that their many other responsibilities do not allow them the time to be motor oil experts. As the leading global lubricants supplier [1], we have a wealth of experience in applying the optimum lubricant technology to deliver Shell’s best performance and protection. Shell LubeMatch enables our customers to benefit from this via a quick and easy to use website.”
Other improved features of the new Shell LubeMatch include:
- Easier navigation, with the ability to search by vehicle type rather than product brands
- Improved look and feel, including images of product packaging for easier identification in a workshop environment
- All-in-one lubricants recommendation for a vehicle’s engine, manual or automatic transmission, differential, brake fluid and wheel bearing greases
- Easy links to download technical and safety datasheets where more detail is required
- Ability to email recommendations to the user’s own account for future reference
- Ability to convert the recommendations into a portable document format (PDF) for easier sharing and reference
- Two-way SMS function being piloted in the UK, enabling users to text their vehicle details to the service and receive oil recommendations back by SMS, or to simply send recommendations from the site to their own mobile phone via SMS
The redesign of Shell LubeMatch follows the increasing popularity of the original tool. In 2010, the existing Shell LubeMatch site received over 7 million hits; with the new tool, usage is predicted to hit at least 10 million by the end of 2011.
