Q8Oils receives approval from Wärtsilä for gas engine oil

Wärtsilä, a global leader in innovative technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine and  energy markets, has approved Q8 Mahler G5 SAE 40 gas engine oil for the use in several Wärtsilä engine  types.

Q8Oils manufactures the Q8 Mahler G5 SAE 40 gas engine oil, a high-performance stationary gas engine oil for marine and power generation applications. Q8Oils is a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), with lubricant blending facilities located in Antwerp, Belgium.

The approval is the result of a 8.411-hour validation test  at the Rofeica Energia power plant located in La Pobla de Claramunt in Catalonia, Spain.

The Q8 Mahler G5 SAE 40 gas engine oil has gone through a validation test in the Wärtsilä 20V34SG  XAAC032923 engine at the Rofeica power plant located in Spain. Based on the results of the engine  inspection and the lubricating oil analyses, Wärtsilä has approved the use of Q8 Mahler G5 SAE 40 for  the engine types Wärtsilä® 175SG, Wärtsilä® 220SG, Wärtsilä® 25SG, Wärtsilä® 28SG, Wärtsilä®  31SG, Wärtsilä® 34SG, Wärtsilä® 50SG, Wärtsilä® 20DF, Wärtsilä® 31DF, Wärtsilä® 32DF, Wärtsilä®  34DF, Wärtsilä® 46DF and Wärtsilä® 50DF with natural gas as the main fuel.

Although the original test plan was aimed for a test period of 4.000 hours, the actual trial period ended  after  13 months, with 8.411 operating hours without any oil drain.

The final engine inspection took place between August 22 and 28, 2022. During the inspection,  three cylinder stations were completely dismantled and thoroughly inspected.

Although the testing period was more than twice as long as planned, the test results were  remarkably good.
