Powered by Shell Advance and Shell V-Power, Ducati team rider Andrea Dovizioso wins Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix
MotoGP title contender Andrea Dovizioso stormed to victory at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix this weekend, with teammate Jorge Lorenzo finishing close behind in second. This result marks Ducati’s sixth win of a hotly contested 2017 season, with Dovizioso and Lorenzo now second and seventh in the 2017 MotoGP World Championship heading into the final race of the season in two weeks’ time at Valencia.
Dovizioso has been central to Ducati’s title charge in 2017, as the Italian rider looks to secure his and the team’s first championships since the clean sweep of 2007, when Casey Stoner won the World MotoGP Riders’ title and Ducati picked up the Constructors’ and Teams’ Championships.
Victory at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix was not only a huge boost to Ducati’s title ambitions but also the partnership with Shell, who has been the official title sponsor to the Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix race in eight of the past nine seasons.
The Technical Partnership with Ducati Corse began back in 1999 when Shell supported Ducati in the Superbike World ChampionshipTM, and this year announced an extension of the technical partnership agreement for another three years, taking it past the 20-year mark. As of this year, Shell has also become Ducati’s exclusive supplier of aftermarket engine oils for the first time, with the launch of Shell Advance Ducati, Shell’s new motorcycle oil developed specially for Ducati road bikes.
The Technical Partnership between Ducati and Shell has been hugely successful on and off the race track, enabling Shell Advance Motorcycle Oil to benefit bikers around the world with cutting edge technology. It has been invaluable for the continued development of Shell Advance and Shell V Power products in the most testing environments.
Andrea Dovizioso of the Ducati Team commented: “This is a fantastic result at a crucial point in the championship. I know that the whole team have worked very hard to develop our bike and our partners at Shell have supported that development continuously throughout 2017. It has helped to make the difference in a season that has so far been extremely competitive.”
Guy Lovett, Shell Motorsport Innovation Manager, said: “We’re extremely proud to play our part in what has been a superb win for the team here at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix. Shell Advance motorcycle oil and Shell V-Power performance fuel have been instrumental in the success that Ducati Corse has achieved, aiding our race performance with improved speed and continued reliability.”
