Petronas and Pentas Flora ink MoU for RRBO production

PETRONAS Lubricants International, a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), and Pentas Flora Sdn. Bhd. (Pentas) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 12, 2023, to explore collaborative opportunities for re-refined base oil (RRBO) production. 

PETRONAS, which produces Group II base oils in Melaka, Malaysia, is set to bolster its commitment to sustainability by partnering with Pentas Flora, a specialist in re-refining used motor oil. Pentas Flora, a premier waste management enterprise in Malaysia, has a rich legacy of more than 12 years in the industry.

This partnership signifies a major leap towards sustainable solutions and technological advancements in the lubricants sector.

Details of the MoU

The MoU establishes the primary principles of collaboration, laying the groundwork for both parties to develop and finalise the terms through definitive agreements. The focus areas include discussions on the supply, technological development, and production of RRBO.

Zahira Sughra Zainuddin, managing director of Group Base Oil at PETRONAS Lubricants International, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “Joining forces with Pentas marks a strategic move towards sustainable practices in our industry. We’re excited about the potential to jointly develop innovative solutions for base oil that benefit both parties and contribute to a greener future,” she said.

Oon Kin Seng, Group Executive Director at Pentas Flora, echoed this sentiment. “Pentas is proud to collaborate with PETRONAS Lubricants International in redefining industry standards for re-refined base oil production. Together, we aim to create a positive environmental impact and bring about technological advancements in our field,” he said.
