Nynas employee recognised for her research

Jinxia Li from Nynas was presented with the prestigious Walter D. Hodson Award during the recently concluded 71st Annual Meeting and Exhibition of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) on May 15-19 in Las Vegas, Nev., U.S.A.

The Walter D. Hodson Award, named in honour of one of STLE’s founders, is presented to the lead author of the best paper written by a young (under 30) STLE member and published by the Society during the year preceding the Annual Meeting.

Li’s paper is entitled “Lubricating Grease Shear Flow and Boundary Layers in a Concentric Cylinder Configuration”, which was published in the journal Tribology Transactions in 2014.

Since January 2016, Li has been working at Nynas, as a development engineer within Naphthenics’ Technical Development and Market Support. She defended her doctoral thesis in 2014 at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, where the focus of her research was to study grease flows in wall-bounded and free-surface flows using experiments and modelling methods.

“My work at Nynas is primarily about product development of naphthenic base oil in lubrication and grease applications with a focus on the rheology and tribology perspective,” says Li.

With the recruitment of Li, Nynas further enhances its position in the lubricating greases segment.

“This is a very special recognition that is given to one student each year, and it highlights the high impact that Jinxia’s research has had in the world of tribology. Jinxia’s knowledge and expertise in the field of grease rheology is of great interest at Nynas, as lubricating grease producers are important consumers of naphthenic oils, and by having a higher expertise in-house we have a better understanding and can provide better service to these customers,” says Luis Bastardo-Zambrano, manager, Technical Development and Market Support, Nynas Naphthenics.
