Infineum Breaks Ground for its first Salicylate plant outside Europe

23 April 2012 – Infineum, one of the world leaders in the formulation, manufacturing and marketing of petroleum additives for lubricants and fuels, today broke ground for its new Salicylate plant, the first for the company outside Europe, situated on Jurong Island in Singapore. The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by the Acting Managing Director for the Singapore Economic Development Board, Mr Tan Choon Shian.

The new plant is the largest investment the Infineum group has made, and speaking at the event Ms Sara Lefcourt, Infineum Group Vice President of Supply, said: “We constantly review our supply capability to ensure that we are able to consistently fulfill our customers’ current and future needs. Strengthening our supply reliability, one of our top priorities, has been a key driver for this investment. The Singapore facility will be an integrated part of the Infineum global supply network. Singapore was selected for its strategic location in the Asia-Pacific, its robust infrastructure, the availability of skilled workforce and the outstanding safety performance of the existing operations. The excellent collaboration with the Singapore authorities will be instrumental in the success of this project.”

Also speaking at the event, Acting Managing Director for the Singapore Economic Development Board, Mr Tan Choon Shian commented: “Specialties companies are seeking a base in Asia from which to capitalise on the growth opportunities presented by rapidly emerging markets. With the Salicylates additives as one of Infineum’s premium products, and the significant technical know-how involved in its manufacturing process, Singapore provides a safe and trusted location for Infineum to supply its customers in the region.”

The contract for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of the new plant has been awarded to Chiyoda Singapore Pte. Ltd. The new plant is expected to be fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2013. The new facility has been designed incorporating the latest technologies and practices in chemical manufacturing with minimal human intervention. It will employ an integrated manufacturing process in which computer-automated operations and quality in-line systems govern the various equipment functions.

Calcium Salicylate is a critical component of lubricants additives for premier passenger car motor oil, heavy duty diesel engines, marine, railroad and gas engines applications.
