Essar Oil UK appoints Mackay as chief transformation officer

Essar, one of the largest exploration and production (E&P) companies in India,  announced the appointment of Mike Mackay as chief transformation officer at Essar Oil UK. Mackay will also join the company’s executive leadership team.

Mackay has more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.  He also has extensive knowledge of refining and the downstream oil sector in the UK.  He recently returned to Essar from a successful secondment in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero as the UK downstream oil sector’s advisor to the Government. 

Mackay has a Master of Arts and Master of Engineering degree from Cambridge University, is an alumnus of the London Business School and is a fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineering.

In his new role, Mackay will develop and implement strategies to improve business performance and reliability as Essar transforms for the future.

“We would like to welcome Mike back after his secondment.  This is an important appointment to a senior position within the company.  Mike will work closely with me to improve business performance and reliability across Essar Oil UK,” said Essar Chief Executive Officer Deepak Maheshwari.

Essar Oil UK owns the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, one of the most advanced refineries in Europe situated close to the major cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Stanlow has 800 employees, and is a key strategic national and regional asset, producing 10 million tons per annum or more than 16% of the UK’s road transport fuels,   It has an ambition for Stanlow to become the UK’s first low-carbon refinery.
