Engen supports Mauritian NGOs in fight against COVID-19

As a company that cares deeply about the communities in which it operates, Engen is supporting Mauritian NGO efforts to reach vulnerable communities during national lockdown, thereby playing a small part to help flatten the curve.

Joining hands with the M-Kids Organisation Youth Council, Engen has donated free fuel to ensure that food kit distribution continues to reach homeless and distressed families. To date the association has assisted 300 families and delivered 1,500 food packs.

Managing Director of Engen in Mauritius, Jean Pierre Payet confirms that plans are also underway to provide fuel to aid FoodWise, which consolidates donations received from numerous food distribution channels and redistributes the food to 80 NGOs working in the field.

โ€œThis week Engen donated Rs12,000 worth of fuel and we plan to continue our show of support and commitment over the coming weeks,โ€ says Payet.

Engen has also prioritised hygiene measure at all forecourts and convenience stores as well as the provision of safety materials, including sanitizers, gloves and masks to all of dedicated Engen forecourt and Quickshop staff.

โ€œWeโ€™re also working with our partners to source food kits for our staff,โ€ adds Payet. โ€œWe are grateful to our government and humbled by the work of the many NGOโ€™s, businesses and individuals who have all pulled together in an effort to combat this outbreak.โ€

Engen is a leading marketer of fuels and lubricants in Mauritius and currently operates 33 service stations and 8 Quickshop convenience stores across the island.
