DSM proves cellulosic bio-ethanol fermentation on industrial scale with 40% higher yield
DSM today, together with DONG Energy, is announcing the success of its advanced cellulosic yeast in achieving a 40-percent yield increase in commercial-scale trials at DONG Energy’s Inbicon demonstration plant in Denmark. The two-month trial run showed consistent conversion-rate increases using wheat straw, a primary, non-food biomass used in the production of cellulosic ethanol, and mixed fermentation of C6 and C5 sugars has now clearly been proven at scale.
In addition to the performance test, the logistics involved in this project are a clear indication that DSM now is ready to deliver this new advanced yeast to customers globally for use in converting cellulosic ethanol at commercial volumes.
