Chevron Oronite takes final investment decision for Singapore expansion
7 March 2012 – Chevron Oronitehas taken the final investment decision to move forward on its plan to significantly expand the capacity of the company’s additives manufacturing plant on Jurong Island in Singapore. Construction is scheduled to be completed in early 2014.The additives produced by the plant are used to improve the performance of lubricants used in engines, hydraulic systems and drivelines. Finished lubricants containing Oronite additives can be found in a variety of applications, such as passenger cars, heavy-duty trucks, marine vessels, locomotives, tractors, construction equipment and natural gas engines.
“Chevron Oronite has long forecasted the continued increase in additive demand throughout the Asia-Pacific Region,” said Ron Kiskis, president. “This expansion of our Singapore facility will help keep us at the forefront of that growth for years to come.”
In a previous announcement, the company explainedthat its plan to expand the Singapore plant would grow manufacturing, blending and shipping capacity, as well as improve overall infrastructure.
“When this expansion is complete, we will have more thandoubled the size of our Jurong Island facility since it was commissioned in 1999,” said Ron Kiskis, vice president, manufacturing and supply. “This is important because it will position us well for the additional growth in the Asia-Pacific Region as well as provide the additional capacity and flexibility that will help strengthen our global supply chainto even more reliably serve our customers’ needs.”
The Singapore Plant occupies a 20-hectare site on the Jurong Island chemical hub that is a convenient source of feedstock and utilities. It is operated with an advanced Distributed Control System; the laboratory is fully equipped to monitor the quality of raw materials as well as finished products; and the plant has a private jetty to accommodate vessels of up to 40,000 dead-weight tonnage.
In addition to the Jurong Island facility, the company also serves customers in the Asia-Pacific region through a joint venture manufacturing plant in Chennai, India as well as a large blending and shipping plant in Omaezaki, Japan. Sales offices are maintained throughout the region, including Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Mumbai.
