Chevron Oronite named “best in Louisiana”
21 December 2010 – SAN RAMON, CA – Chevron Oronite recently announced that its manufacturing site in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, has been named “Best in Louisiana” by the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA). As the Class III winner (201-400 employees), Oronite was given one of four top SAFE (Serious About Fostering Excellence) Awards for its outstanding safety and environmental performance in 2009.
“Safe operations and strong environmental performance are top priorities in the Louisiana chemical industry,” said Dan Borne, LCA President. “All our members work hard on this because superior performance in these critical areas is equally important to the people who live in communities where chemical plants operate.”
The “Best in Louisiana” designation is based on safety and environmental compliance information that plants submit to state and federal government regulatory agencies as well as by the plant’s ability to demonstrate significant involvement in civic affairs and community life.
“We are proud to have received this award from LCA because we place the highest priority on the health and safety of our work force and protection of our assets and the environment,” said Koon Eng Goh, Regional Manager, Americas Region, Chevron Oronite. “Moreover, anyone who enters the plant is empowered with ‘stop work authority’, which means that any individual is required to stop any work in progress if there are any safety, health or environmental concerns.”
Oronite employees and contractors at this Plaquemines Parish site worked over 1.2 million hours in 2009 without an OSHA recordable injury.
The awards were presented by the LCA at its 51st Annual Meeting held October 13-15, 2010, in New Orleans. The SAFE winners took home “Best in Louisiana” awards from among all LCA facilities statewide.
