BioBlend expands portfolio with ELM acquisition

BioBlend Renewable Resources, based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, U.S.A., has acquired Environmental Lubricant Manufacturing (ELM) headquartered in Grundy Center, Iowa, U.S.A.

Established in 2000, ELM’s primary mission was to commercialise soybean oil-based lubricants and greases. The company has been at the forefront of biodegradable product innovation, operating from their expansive 87,000 square foot facility in Iowa. A notable achievement of ELM is their patented microwave technology, which revolutionises biobased grease processing. This technology ensures that biobased greases are produced more safely, consistently, and efficiently compared to conventional grease production methods.

BioBlend has been a trailblazer in marketing sustainable products. Their comprehensive range of industrial products facilitates a smooth transition to biobased alternatives.

Jeff Hart, CEO of BioBlend, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “This acquisition presents a golden opportunity for BioBlend to amplify our business through enhanced grease manufacturing capabilities. We’re eager to integrate the ELM team and Dr. Lou into the BioBlend family.”

Dr. Lou Honary, founder and president of ELM, shared his perspective, highlighting decades of refining biobased products and manufacturing processes. He expressed optimism about the collaboration with BioBlend, envisioning a brighter, eco-friendlier future.

Steve King, EVP for BioBlend, commented on the acquisition’s potential to broaden BioBlend’s product range and services. He noted the synergy between ELM’s grease-focused approach and BioBlend’s lubricant offerings, promising unparalleled product quality and technical expertise for customers.
