ASTM presents prestigious Eagle award to Koehler Instrument’s Raj Shah

ASTM international presented Dr. Raj Shah, Director at Koehler Instrument company in Holtsville, N.Y. with the prestigious Eagle award at their recent bi–annual meeting.

This illustrious award honored exceptional meritorious service by Dr. Raj Shah within ASTM, specifically for the committee of petroleum products, liquid fuels and lubricants. The citation noted that the Eagle Award had been awarded to Dr. Raj Shah for his distinguished leadership as well as sustained, multiple and significant contributions to the standardization process in Committee D02 and its various Subcommittees for the last two decades.

Dr. Shah is the only person ever in over 30,000 plus ASTM members in over 100 countries who has been honored with the Eagle award and the Award of Excellence on three separate occasions since 2000.

In giving him the award, the committee noted that, over the years his contributions have been multiple, significant and consistent in various subcommittees of ASTM D02 (petroleum products) and he has shown both clear leadership and perseverance in a number of these subcommittees and worked behind the scenes in many others. Dr. Shah has also contributed immensely (co-chairing) multiple successful symposiums over the years, and has written numerous chapters for various ASTM publications and is the co-editor of the widely used reference bestseller book. “Fuels and Lubricants handbook : technology, properties, performance and testing.

Dr. Shah has been a member of ASTM for over 20 years and has been active in the Lubrication engineering field for all of that period. Over the years Dr. Shah has amassed an enormous body of work, specializing in taking real life issues related to lubrication and attempting to replicate them in a laboratory environment, and thus developing a wide range of bench scale test techniques that simulate real world problems. He has then gone on numerous times to make an ASTM standard of such a technique, so that there is uniformity in these newly developed petroleum laboratory tests, industry wide. It is precisely due to his hard word in this field of lubrication and his outstanding personal achievement that he has been recognized by the American standards of testing material (ASTM International) multiple times.

A distinguished alumni of ICT, Mumbai, Dr. Shah is currently a Director at Koehler Instrument company and is also involved in working closely with several universities and is on the industrial board of advisors at: Chemical Engineering at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, The School of Engineering, Design, Technology and Professional programs (SEDTAPP) at Pennsylvania State University, and the Samuel Ginn College of engineering, Tribology and lubrication science minor at the University of Auburn.
