ExxonMobil’s Mobilgard 540 AC validated for dual fuel/LNG engines

ExxonMobil has announced that its advanced 40BN cylinder oil, Mobilgard™ 540 AC, has been validated by Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) for use in its dual fuel engines. This validation includes compatibility with conventional fuels such as methanol and LNG, making Mobilgard 540 AC a versatile solution for the maritime industry.

Already approved by MAN Energy Solutions (MAN ES) for use in its two-stroke engines, Mobilgard 540 AC is specifically developed for slow-speed, two-stroke marine engines operating on fuels with up to 0.50% sulphur content, as well as LNG, ethane, methanol, and LPG. The cylinder oil has demonstrated excellent engine cleanliness while running in gas mode at optimised low feed rates, the company said. It is also suitable for methanol operation and other liquid fuels with sulphur levels up to 1.5%.

With its MAN ES Category II approval and now the dual fuel validation from WinGD, Mobilgard 540 AC positions itself as one of the highest-performing cylinder oils in the market. The product’s ability to optimise cylinder oil feed rates and effectively manage acid neutralisation makes it suitable for a wide range of engines and fuel applications, ExxonMobil said.
