ExxonMobil announces leadership changes effective January 2025

ExxonMobil has announced key leadership changes, effective 1 January 2025, as part of its strategy to leverage diverse expertise across its executive team.

Liam Mallon, president of ExxonMobil Upstream Company, will retire after 34 years of service. He will be succeeded by Dan Ammann, who is currently president of Low Carbon Solutions (LCS). In addition, Bartley Engle has been appointed as president of Low Carbon Solutions and vice president of ExxonMobil Corporation.

“We thank Liam for his long-standing, dedicated service to the company, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement,” said Darren Woods, chairman and chief executive officer.

“These appointments continue the company’s approach of leveraging the diverse skills and experiences of a very accomplished executive team to bring fresh perspectives and approaches to each of our exceptionally talented organizations,” said Woods. “This has served us well over the last several years and is a useful, innovative way to strengthen our leadership teams, challenge conventions and broaden our people.

Ammann joined ExxonMobil in 2022, bringing extensive leadership experience, including his tenure as CEO of Cruise, a subsidiary of General Motors. Bartley Engle, who joined ExxonMobil in September 2024 after a career at General Motors, will now lead the company’s efforts in advancing scalable, profitable low-carbon energy solutions.

These changes underscore ExxonMobil’s commitment to addressing the challenges of a dynamic energy sector while driving sustainability and innovation.
