F+L Week 2022 Training Workshop: Fundamentals of Electric Vehicle Lubrication

Learn lubrication fundamentals and how they apply to current and future automotive propulsion systems, as well as the lubrication challenges unique to hybrid and full electric vehicles.

Who Should Attend?

The class is intended for managers, engineers, scientists, technicians, service and sales professionals involved in lubricants and coolants for automotive transportation. Attendees should have a good understanding of basic physics and chemistry.

Why Should You Attend?

Students will benefit from the detailed descriptions of the tribological requirements of modern automobiles. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the various moving components in an automobile powertrain, including internal combustion engines and electric motors, and the challenges of managing friction and wear to improve efficiency and durability. Course modules will include the specific challenges of cooling for battery-powered vehicles and hybrids. Students will be better prepared to deal with the range of options for lubricating and cooling as the market for electric vehicles and hybrids rapidly expands.

Workshop Leader

Dr. Edward Becker earned a B.S in Metallurgical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.S in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He joined General Motors at the Cadillac Motor Car Division in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. While at GM, he received his Professional Engineer’s license, and earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan through the GM Technical Education program. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service, mostly in the Powertrain division working on a variety of GM engines, transmissions, and rare earth permanent magnets for electric motors.
