Duckhams Racing trials sustainable fuel at BTCC Silverstone
The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) has taken a major step towards sustainability following the successful use of 100% sustainable fuel by the Duckhams Racing with Un-Limited Motorsport team during a competitive race weekend. The trial, conducted in partnership with Haltermann Carless, marks an important milestone for the BTCC, aligning the series with its goal of full sustainability across the grid.
The Duckhams Racing car, driven by Daryl DeLeon, completed 319 kilometres without any fuel-related issues. Despite using the new Hiperflo ECO102 R100 fuel, which meets FIA sustainable fuel standards, the vehicle demonstrated performance equal to competitors running on the conventional championship fuel.
The new sustainable fuel reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 55% on a well-to-wheel (WtW) basis compared to traditional fossil fuels. A full-season adoption by the BTCC would reduce emissions by an estimated 50,000 kg of CO2, equivalent to the weight of 37 BTCC cars.
“This is a significant step forward in our sustainability efforts. We are thrilled with the successful trial and remain committed to balancing the competitiveness of the championship with environmental responsibility,” said Alan Gow, chief executive of BTCC.
