
D-A Lubricant expands in western U.S. with Crystal Packaging deal
D-A Lubricant Company has announced the acquisition of Crystal Packaging, Inc., a contract blending firm based in Henderson, Colorado, U.S.A. The acquired business will now operate as D-A Packaging LLC.
“We are integrating Crystal Packaging into the D-A family, welcoming over 40 employees and leveraging their expertise,” said Michael Protogere, CEO of D-A Lubricant.
D-A Lubricant Company is a U.S.-based manufacturer and marketer of lubricants and related products, with a legacy dating back to 1919. Headquartered in Lebanon, Indiana, the company provides a comprehensive range of lubrication solutions for industries such as automotive, heavy-duty, industrial, agricultural, and marine sectors.
The company markets its products throughout North America and is known for its private-label and toll blending services, which cater to other lubricant companies or brands seeking third-party production capabilities. D-A Lubricant Company has not publicly disclosed specific figures regarding its total production capacity.
Crystal Packaging brings more than four decades of experience in toll blending and contract packaging for sectors such as automotive, petrochemicals, aviation, and oil and gas. Crystal Packaging’s Henderson facility offers more than 70,000 square feet of production and storage space, with bulk blending tanks up to 12,000 gallons and approximately two million gallons of storage tank capacity.
Crystal Packaging filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June 4, 2024, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado (Case No. 1:24-bk-13093). Chapter 11 allows a company to reorganise its operations while continuing business. The bankruptcy proceedings concluded on March 21, 2025, facilitating the company’s acquisition by D-A Lubricant Company. Specific terms of the acquisition were not publicly disclosed.
The acquisition of Crystal Packaging significantly enhances D-A Lubricant’s production capacity and operational efficiency, while also expanding its custom product offering. Crystal Packaging’s strategically located facility, within 90 miles of major retail distribution hubs, offers a logistical advantage for national distribution.
