Cepsa rebrands as Moeve to lead sustainable energy transition
Spanish energy company Cepsa has announced its rebranding to Moeve, signalling a transformative step under its Positive Motion strategy. This change aligns with Moeve’s goal of becoming a leading player in sustainable energy and mobility across Europe, with the majority of profits projected to come from sustainable activities by 2030.
The rebranding initiative reflects Moeve’s commitment to green hydrogen, second-generation biofuels, and ultra-fast electric mobility. The company is investing EUR8 billion (USD8.7 billion) into its transition plan, dedicating more than 60% to renewable energy solutions, including its landmark Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley project. Expected to reach a capacity of 2000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, it will be Europe’s largest green hydrogen initiative. Moeve also aims to develop one of southern Europe’s largest biofuel plants, producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel with an annual output of one million tonnes.
CEO Maarten Wetselaar commented, “I’m thrilled to share that, after more than 90 years as Cepsa, we are evolving into something new – Moeve – a brand committed to a sustainable future, with the majority of our profits set to come from sustainable activities by the end of this decade. Over the past two years, this renowned and collaborative company has accelerated its transformation, achieving key milestones in its 2030 Positive Motion strategy. Today, we are proud to introduce a brand that reflects our commitment to leading Europe’s energy transition, particularly in green molecule production—such as green hydrogen and second-generation biofuels—and ultra-fast electric mobility.”
Moeve’s service stations in Spain and Portugal will begin rebranding this November, with 600 sites updated annually as part of a phased rollout.
