WGL Honored by Women’s Forum of New York for Accelerating Gender Parity in the Boardroom
44 Percent of the Company’s Board of Director Seats Held by Women
WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–WGL Holdings, Inc. (WGL) recently earned the Parity Award, special
recognition from the Women’s
Forum of New York, for accelerating gender parity in the boardroom
with 44 percent of its Board of Director seats held by women. During the
Breakfast of Corporate Champions, a biennial program, WGL accepted the
honor for demonstrating gender balance in the boardroom as a strategic
business imperative and for serving as an inspiration for other
companies to drive positive change. WGL was also named
to this list in 2015.
This year, the Women’s Forum of New York recognized only 43 companies
out of the Fortune 1000 and S&P 500 companies that reached this
threshold of approaching gender equality, ranking WGL among less than 5
percent of companies regarded as game changers for women on boards.
“WGL has a tradition of embracing diversity as a key company value and
we continue to reflect this in our board, our suppliers, employee base,
and all across our company,” said Terry D. McCallister, Chairman and CEO
of WGL Holdings, Inc. and Washington Gas. “We are proud to have the
talent and experience of our female board members and appreciate the
tremendous contributions they make to foster a culture of diversity and
excellence in their years of service.”
“I am very proud to serve on the board of directors at WGL, and applaud
the culture of inclusion and the strong representation of women that
have always been a fundamental part of the company’s corporate
commitment and heritage,” said Debra L. Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET
Networks, and a member of the WGL Board since 2000.
The Women's Forum of New York is the city’s premier organization of
women leaders comprising the highest achievers in every professional
sector from finance to fine arts. Since 2011, the Women’s Forum of New
York’s biennial Breakfast of Corporate Champions has saluted Fortune
1000 and S&P 500 companies with at least 25 percent of board seats held
by women.
Of the nine members who make up the WGL board, four are women who have
collectively provided more than 20 years of service to the company. In
addition to Ms. Lee, they include:
-
Nancy C. Floyd, founder and managing director of Nth Power, a San
Francisco based venture capital firm focused on advanced energy
technologies, energy efficiency and sustainability, who has served as
director since 2011. -
