WGL CEO Terry D. McCallister Named Finalist for Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s 2017 Responsible CEO Award
WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–WGL Holdings, Inc. announced that Corporate
Responsibility (CR) Magazine, the leading voice for the corporate
responsibility profession, recently named Terry D. McCallister, Chairman
and CEO at WGL Holdings, Inc. and Washington Gas, a finalist
for the 10th annual Responsible CEO Awards. The recognition
identifies corporate leaders who are committed to a progressive
environmental, social and governance agenda, and demonstrate a personal
commitment to corporate responsibility, sustainability and impact.
“WGL has maintained an on-going commitment to ambitious sustainability
practices achieved through our dedicated employees and businesses that
everyday make corporate social responsibility a core part of our company
values,” said Terry D. McCallister, Chairman and CEO of WGL Holdings,
Inc and Washington Gas. “We continue to drive sustainable clean energy
business practices and programs to enhance the communities where we
operate – that means encouraging the company to set stretch targets that
push ourselves to aim higher with bold innovation and fresh thinking to
exceed expectations.”
Recognizing his personal involvement, conviction and support for
sustainability that challenged the company, CR Magazine selected Terry
D. McCallister’s leadership as a finalist based on several
accomplishments at WGL, including:
-
In 2011, Washington Gas (a WGL company), announced two greenhouse gas
(GHG) goals to achieve by 2020 against the company’s 2008 baseline.
Washington Gas exceeded both of its goals ahead of schedule as announced
in 2016. This included a 74 percent reduction in absolute GHG
emissions from its fleet and facilities, and a 20 percent reduction in
GHG emissions for every unit of natural gas delivered. -
At WGL, sustainability is not only one of five articulated corporate
core values, it is now also linked to the company’s annual Corporate
Scorecard with progress tracked each year as part of its annual goals. -
WGL’s new
ambitious 2025 sustainability targets include a clean energy plan of
achieving carbon neutral fleet and facilities operations by 2025,
adding resilient infrastructure that will reduce emissions intensity
of the company’s delivered gas by 38% from a 2008 baseline by 2025,
and supporting sustainable cities and communities by enabling its
customers to save the energy equivalent to 18 million metric tons of
greenhouse gas emissions between 2015 and 2025.
