Tendril Releases Latest Version of Its Data Analytics Software Platform Enabling Utilities to Reduce Cost and Drive Behind-the-Meter Growth

Tendril Platform 4 Helps DSM Business Leaders Establish Trusted
Customer Relationships, Provide a Full Suite of Energy Products and
Orchestrate Home Energy Usage

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Tendril today announced major enhancements to its data analytics
software solution with the release of Tendril Platform 4. Long
established as one of the industry’s leading energy efficiency and
customer engagement platforms, the new technology upgrades and latest
strategic partnerships with Nest
and EFI
make Tendril Platform 4 the most complete, demand side management (DSM)
analytics software on the market.

“Utilities have worked diligently over the last several years to build
trust with their customers. While these efforts to engage and educate
have been vital, now we must build on this foundation to diversify
revenue streams and offer advanced home control technologies,” said
Adrian Tuck, CEO, Tendril. “While point solutions helped address the
engagement piece, they don’t take us to this next level. For that, we
need to deliver a seamless end-to-end experience leveraging data to
deliver personalized insights that drive meaningful actions. Only with
DSM analytics software like Tendril Platform 4 can we make this
important shift.”

Tendril Platform 4 builds on previous investments the company made
around analytics, advanced targeting and segmentation, support for
ecosystem partners and device interconnection. These new enhancements
and partnerships further enable utilities to convert consumers to
digital channels, create value with AMI data, model distributed energy
resources (DERs), improve marketplace transactions and design non-wires
alternatives (NWAs). The enhancements include:

Strategic Partnerships

  • Supercharging Marketplace Solutions – EFI, the leader in
Utility Marketplaces, has integrated its solution with Tendril
Platform 4. Specifically, Tendril will provide analytical insights to
inform whom to target, personalized savings estimates for offers, and
messaging tailored by segment, helping create a best-in-class energy
destination for residential customers. EFI’s Marketplace will use this
information to create a tailored and personalized experience for each
customer to increase engagement and conversions.
  • Nest Comes on Board – Tendril Platform 4 will soon provide
demand response scheduling, dispatch, and reporting for Nest
Thermostats. By adding the leading smart thermostat provider to
Tendril’s software platform, Tendril will further be able to support
the direct install and Bring Your Own Thermostat (BYOT) approaches
embraced by leading utilities across the country.

Universal Behavioral Energy Efficiency (BEE)

  • HER Advertisements – Tendril Home Energy Reports (HERs), of
which nearly 80 million have been sent to consumers throughout North
America, can now include third-party advertisements for energy-related
products and services. This feature improves cost recovery of HER
programs and contributes to revenue generation by suggesting the
purchase of, and providing coupons for, related products.
  • AMI Integration Extends Alert Capabilities – Tendril’s
successful weather-based alert products, such as High Bill Alerts,
will now ingest AMI data. Tendril hasn’t historically needed AMI data
to deliver highly accurate alerts. With this integration, energy
customers will gain access to email and text alerts that leverage
weather, behavioral and real-time AMI data to provide actionable
insights in between bills. Alerts can be sent to inform customers of
unusually high usage, abnormal patterns in their usage, or potentially
    malfunctioning appliances or HVAC units.
  • Enhanced Segmentation – Tendril will apply machine learning to
help energy efficiency managers more accurately segment customers and
improve program targeting, as well as easily change content, cadence
and channel per segment. In doing so, Tendril can further configure a
treatment plan that addresses the unique needs of a utility. This can
include treating hard-to-reach populations such as low-income or
English as a Second Language (ESL) residents or applying advanced
tactics like the Persistence Effect, which is proven to help customers
save energy after they stop receiving HERs.

Analytics

  • Delivering on the Promise of Non-Wires Alternatives (NWAs) –
DSM professionals can tap into Tendril Platform 4 and its analytics on
123 million North American households to perform queries and run
calculations that pinpoint NWA opportunities and accurately forecast
the benefits to the customer, as well as the utility’s return on those
    investments.

Continuous Demand Management

  • Orchestrated Energy Delivers – Tendril
released preliminary results of its Orchestrated Energy Summer 2017
roll outs with some of the largest utilities in North America. Across
the three utility programs, Orchestrated Energy reduced peak HVAC load
by 85% on average, delivered HVAC energy efficiency savings of 14%
above that of the smart thermostat and increased comfort as evidenced
by a 33% decrease in the number of times a customer adjusted their
    thermostat. ecobee
participated in the summer 2017 roll outs of Orchestrated Energy.

Supporting Quotes

"We've been impressed with the ability of Orchestrated Energy to
increase energy efficiency and reduce peak demand from HVAC usage," said
Jeff Hamel, Head of Energy Partnerships, Nest. "With our recent
integration with the Tendril Platform, we look forward to partnering
with Tendril on demand response and other programs that further our
vision for the connected home."

"Utility Marketplaces have become a critical path to engage consumers
with offers for products and services that contribute to their energy
management goals," said Mark Willingham, Senior Vice President, EFI. "As
the pioneer and market leader in this space we are committed to
continually innovating our solutions to meet the evolving needs of both
utilities and consumers. That approach led to our partnership with
Tendril, whose rich data analytics will help us better tailor and
personalize our Marketplace experience."

"While the commercial and industrial DSM customer engagement space is
relatively crowded, only a few companies, like Tendril, have been able
to deliver successful DSM capability on the residential side of the
business,” said Kevin Prouty, Vice President of Energy Insights, IDC.
“IDC Insights recognizes that a complete DSM system that includes key
features like smart device interconnection, marketplace support,
analytics, AMI integration and automated reporting is the system that
utilities are typically looking for in residential customer engagement."
