Standard Solar and Delaware Technical Community College Receive Solar Focus Project of the Year Award
Award recognizes Delaware Technical Community College’s combined,
statewide 2.1 megawatt solar system
ROCKVILLE, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#DelawareTech—Standard
Solar, Inc., a leading solar energy company, received the Project of
the Year Award for its solar project for Delaware
Technical Community College (Delaware Tech) during Solar
Focus 2017. This annual east coast solar industry conference is
hosted by the Maryland-DC-Delaware-Virginia Solar Energy Industries
Association (MDV-SEIA), affiliate of the national Solar Energy
Industries Association. The awards recognize outstanding local solar
professionals and organizations that are advancing the state of the
industry through innovation, advocacy and leadership.
Completed through a partnership with Urban
Grid, Standard Solar was recognized for its work with Delaware Tech
for a two-phased solar project that combined statewide systems in a 2.1
megawatt solar system.
The combined project is one of the largest solar systems in Delaware and
is expected to generate more than 2,960,000 kilowatt hours per year.
This amount of power is equivalent to offsetting the CO2 emissions from
2,219,789 pounds of coal burned or 220 homes’ energy use for each year.
Completed in June 2017, the final phase featured a 449 kilowatt (kW)
carport and a 296 kW rooftop array on the Terry Campus in Dover and two
rooftop arrays totaling 585 kW on the Owens Campus in Georgetown.
“We are honored to be recognized with such a prestigious award from our
peers in the solar industry,” said Scott Wiater, president & CEO,
Standard Solar. “We will continue to look for innovative ways to further
drive the adoption of solar technologies and congratulate Delaware Tech
and the state of Delaware for its energy vision and leadership.”
Delaware Tech’s focus on advancing energy management studies includes
energy labs in all three counties and associate degrees in renewable
energy, solar, energy management and building automation systems.
Urban Grid financed the projects through a long-term Power Purchase
Agreement with Delaware Tech. While this installation will offset
Delaware Tech’s energy requirements and provide a hedge against
potentially volatile energy prices into the future, it will also
contribute to Delaware’s renewable energy portfolio standard. With these
projects, the college is exhibiting its dedication to furthering
renewable energy and energy management education while reducing their
own carbon footprint.
Held November 7-8, 2017 in Washington, DC, Solar Focus 2017 brings
together solar professionals and industry leaders across the
Mid-Atlantic to share ideas, build partnerships, and envision the future
of solar power. MDV-SEIA is celebrating its 30th year of
regional advocacy for an industry that continues to grow and supports
over 10,000 jobs.
