Sentient Energy Widens its Leadership in Intelligent Sensing, Control and Analytics Networks (ISCAN) with Shipments Exceeding 55,000 Units
Grid Safety, Reliability, and Strong Growth in DER Are Creating Strong
Demand for Company’s Sensors and Analytics Software that Cover Entire
Distribution Grid
BURLINGAME, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#DistributionGrid–Sentient Energy, Inc., a leading provider of advanced grid monitoring
and analytics for electric utilities, announced today that shipments of
its intelligent distribution line monitors have now exceeded 55,000
units. Sentient Energy line monitors are designed to detect, capture,
analyze and communicate faults and non-fault disturbances in real time
over both AMI/DA mesh networks and cellular networks.
“Intelligent Sensing, Control and Analytics Networks (ISCAN) are rapidly
becoming the must-have ‘SCADA equivalent’ for utilities’ vast
distribution grid,” said Jim Keener, Sentient Energy’s Chief Executive
Officer. “Sentient Energy offers the industry’s only analytics and
intelligent sensing network that covers the entire distribution network
with line sensors that can be quickly deployed, and analytics that
identify and analyze potential faults and other grid events. With our
new milestone of 55,000 units shipped, we expect strong sales activity
to continue in 2018 as utilities continue their efforts to improve
reliability, safety, and interruption-free power delivery.”
“We believe our intelligent sensors and analytics will play a
transformational role in grid modernization as more and more distributed
energy resources (DER) such PV Solar and storage batteries are added,”
said Sentient Energy Chief Revenue Officer, Venkat Bahl. “Currently,
distribution companies have little real-time control or visibility into
these assets that create a bidirectional power flow that must be
carefully integrated with bulk generation. You can’t optimize DER if you
don't know where currents are reversed or where voltages are still
present after an outage event.”
Sentient’s flagship MM3™ overhead line sensors are complemented by the
Sentient ZM1™ for deployment where no or low amperage is available to
power monitoring devices, as well as a new monitoring device that the
company will unveil at ‘DistribuTECH 2018.’ With the addition of the new
monitoring device, utilities will have access to the condition and
status of infrastructure, in real time, anywhere on the grid. Sentient’s
Ample™ Analytics suite provides everything needed to manage the
monitoring of these intelligent sensor devices and the immense amount of
data that they collect.
Sentient Energy will showcase it complete line of sensors and grid
analytics, at DistribuTECH booth #2953 in San Antonio, January 23-25,
2018.
