IQMS Principal to Present Session on How to Enable Mistake-Proofing via Automated Connections at IoT for Metalformers and Fabricators Conference
Two-day event hosted by MetalForming Magazine will examine how metal
formers and fabricators can leverage IoT technology on the plant floor
for strategic decision-making
PASO ROBLES, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#erp–The latest generation of Internet of Things (IoT) technology is
presenting new opportunities for metal formers and fabricators to
optimize their operations via plant-floor connectivity and enhanced
insights. To help manufacturers leverage IoT technology in their
businesses, MetalForming Magazine, a publication of the Precision
Metalforming Association (PMA), is hosting the IoT
for Metalformers and Fabricators Conference. There, IQMS
Principal Louis Columbus will present a general session on how to enable
mistake-proofing via automated connections. The event runs April 18-19,
2018, at the Hilton Garden Inn Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mistake-Proofing via Automated Connections
Columbus will present the general session, “How Automated Connections to
Equipment Enable Mistake-Proofing Within Metalforming and Fabrication
Plants,” on Thursday, April 19, at 8:45 a.m.
In the session, Columbus will examine how direct connections to
production equipment enables smart logic to mistake-proof job setup and
start-up. He will discuss how leveraging information from embedded
sensors, machine controls, and scanners allows parts makers to use
manufacturing execution software (MES) to assure correct materials,
operators, tools, containers, and product labels are available in place
before the start of a work-order run.
Additionally, Columbus will review how eliminating mistakes in the setup
for a job before the run minimizes the number of problems and scrap
resulting from product changeovers. He also will explain how this
approach reduces the risk of unnecessary rework and customer concerns
over product quality and mislabeling. He concludes by discussing how the
result is the ability to maximize the output of conforming parts,
utilization of process equipment, and customer satisfaction.
About PMA
The Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) is the full-service trade
association representing the $137-billion metalforming industry of North
America—the industry that creates precision metal products using
stamping, fabricating, spinning, slide forming and roll forming
technologies, and other value-added processes. Its nearly 900 member
companies also include suppliers of equipment, materials, and services
to the industry. PMA leads innovative member companies toward superior
competitiveness and profitability through advocacy, networking,
statistics, the PMA Educational Foundation, FABTECH and METALFORM Mexico
tradeshows, and MetalForming, Fabricating Product
News and 3D Metal Printing magazines.
