Greensmith, AltaGas Receive Grid Edge Award for Record-Setting Pomona Energy Storage Project

HERNDON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Greensmith Energy, a leader in advanced energy storage software and
services, and AltaGas, a North American diversified energy
infrastructure company, are being honored at Greentech Media’s Grid Edge
World Forum for the success of the AltaGas Pomona Energy Storage
facility in Southern California. Earlier this year, Wärtsilä, a global
leader in energy solutions and services operating in 70 countries,
announced the acquisition of Greensmith Energy, to be concluded in July
2017.

Together with partner AltaGas, Greensmith designed, integrated and
commissioned the Pomona Energy Storage system in under four months and
on budget, achieving one of the fastest deployments of any grid-scale
energy storage system globally. Today the facility runs on Greensmith’s
GEMS software platform, provides 20 MW and 80 MWh of energy capacity to
Southern California Edison and is the largest indoor battery facility in
the world.

“We are delighted by this special recognition for a state-of-the-art
energy storage system that quickly addressed a serious capacity issue in
California associated with the Aliso Canyon gas leak,” said Greensmith
CEO John Jung. “Greensmith’s growing track record of successful system
deliveries, now over 60 globally, demonstrates that advanced grid-scale
energy storage can be deployed in a matter of months and is capable of
responding in milliseconds to improve grid quality anywhere.”

Greensmith Energy and AltaGas were selected from hundreds of Grid Edge
Award nominations. Winners represent the top twenty companies or
projects showcasing innovative products, new business models for the
electric sector, and efficient, reliable alternatives for managing the
electric grid.

Earlier this month, Energy Storage North America also recognized
Greensmith and AltaGas as a finalist for a 2017 Innovation Award. A
public vote to determine ESNA award winners is underway at esnaexpo.com/awards/voting.
Winners will be announced in August.
