EQT Foundation Establishes New Record of Charitable Giving in 2017
Organizations and Communities throughout EQT Operating Areas
Benefit
PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The EQT Foundation awarded a record high of more than $6.5 million in
grants, scholarships, and other charitable contributions to non-profit
organizations and programs throughout southwestern Pennsylvania and
northern West Virginia during 2017. Since its launch in 2003, EQT
Foundation has donated nearly $50 million to non-profits that are
making a difference in the lives of the individuals and families they
serve.
As the charitable affiliation of EQT Corporation, the nation’s largest
producer of natural gas, the EQT Foundation focuses on supporting groups
and programs within EQT’s operating areas. The Foundation helps
communities prosper by supporting education for children – especially in
the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) disciplines. In
fact, more than one-third of 2017’s charitable giving went toward
educational initiatives. An additional $400 thousand supported
educational scholarships, including the EQT Students of Excellence
program in West Virginia; and the ASPIRE (Area Students Participating in
Rewarding Education) program, which matches high school students in the
Pittsburgh area with EQT employee mentors.
In addition, EQT Foundation is committed to encouraging the development
of diverse neighborhoods; sponsoring local programs that promote greater
understanding and appreciation of arts and culture; and supporting
various environmental initiatives. The Foundation also matches
charitable contributions made by EQT's employees and Board of Directors
on a dollar-for-dollar basis from $100 up to $50,000 per
employee/director, per year. Matching contributions totaled more than
$1.1 million in 2017.
“We want the communities our business touches to benefit from
opportunities that help neighbors and families. We want to be a good
partner with our communities and help improve lives,” said Charlene
Petrelli, President of EQT Foundation. “By strategically providing
financial, in-kind, and human capital, we are making a difference.”
In addition to supporting numerous local organizations and student
scholarship programs, EQT Foundation also funds signature initiatives,
such as:
EQT Children’s Theater Festival – Brings professional theater
performances from around the world to downtown Pittsburgh
EQT Pittsburgh 10-Miler – Western Pennsylvania's favorite fall
road race
PBS Young Writers Contest – Encourages children to submit
original stories for local and national recognition
EQT Scholars – Provides full scholarships to socio-economically
disadvantaged students in the Pittsburgh area to attend Winchester
Thurston School, Shady Side Academy, or the Ellis School
