Energy Cost Savings from Rooftop Solar at Travis Family Homes Enable Community, Home Enhancements

TRAVIS AFB, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Balfour
Beatty Communities, a leading provider of property management,
development and related real estate services for the multifamily,
military and student housing markets, today announced first year energy
cost savings resulting from the rooftop solar program implemented at
Travis Family Homes have totaled nearly $57k. Travis Family Homes is a
Balfour Beatty Communities owned and managed housing community serving
active duty Air Force families at Travis AFB in California.

Photovoltaic panels were installed on rooftops throughout the Travis
Family Homes community, with a total system capacity of just under 1
megawatt, as part of the solar program. The system contributes more than
14 percent of the community’s total annual power needs and, since
reaching full operational status in October 2016, has exceeded energy
savings expectations. The system’s installation protects the on-base
housing community from fluctuating power costs and the need to rely on
local electrical utility providers and required no out-of-pocket cost
for the Air Force.

Balfour Beatty Communities will be taking the savings realized to date
in the rooftop solar program and reinvest them into community
improvements at Travis Family Homes that directly benefit the Air Force
families living there this year. These improvement will include
landscape and roofing upgrades and recreational area and playground
enhancements.

Balfour Beatty Communities’ rooftop solar program is operational at 13
of their military communities across the country, including Army, Navy
and Air Force installations. Total system capacity currently exceeds 40
megawatts.
