2018 Industrial Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) Report Bundle – ResearchAndMarkets.com
DUBLIN–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The "Industrial
LPWA Report Set" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's
offering.
Industrial LWPA: Market Dynamics Report
Industrial low power wide area (LPWA) solutions continue to penetrate
the industrial Internet of Things (IoT) markets. For industrial IoT
developers who have spent years with wireless mesh sensor network
technologies such as WirelessHART and ISA100, these new LPWA
technologies are disruptive. They also represent a new opportunity to
extend wireless sensor networks with hybrid industrial wireless sensing
solutions.
Unlicensed LPWA Networks Expand Worldwide:
Much of Europe and many parts of the Asia Pacific region are covered
with Sigfox and LoRa networks, with LPWA services offered by key telecom
operators such as Arqiva, Bouygues, Orange, KPN, Proximus, Swisscom, as
well as dedicated IoT operators such as Thinxtra in Australia. In the
U.S., LoRa will have the largest private unlicensed industrial LPWA
network growth and LTE-M1 will do the same for licensed public networks.
Oil & Gas LPWA
Over the past 12 years, the publisher has covered the impact of the
Internet of Things (IoT) on the oil and gas industry. In the past two
years, we saw growing interest in Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) network
solutions such as LoRa, Sigfox, LTE-M and NB-IoT, and this trend
continues. The multi-mile sensing and control capabilities provided by
LPWA technologies is perfectly matched for oil and gas wellhead
automation and pipeline operations as well as innovative solutions for
asset tracking and logistics.
The US congress's decision to allow oil and gas exports was a key
decision that has enabled the US oil and gas industry to have a faster
recovery from the 2014-2016 oil downturn. LPWA is the latest development
that impacts this industry by solving complex and labor expensive
monitoring, and management of remote wellheads and assets. LPWA
solutions move the networking and provisioning complexity to the
in-premises or cloud network server. This lowers labor costs as routers
and repeaters are not needed and development is primarily done in the
cloud.
LoRa: Market Dynamics
With a thriving global ecosystem and 10,000s of networks worldwide, LoRa
has captured a significant slice of Internet of Things markets.
LoRa's chirp spread spectrum advantages, deep building penetration, open
source networking and suitability for private and public networks has
drawn thousands of developers and the world's largest network operators.
The LoRa Alliance has grown to over 500 members in just two years and
new breakthroughs, such as the LoRa backscatter using 1000X less power
with 10 cent sensing devices transmitting up to 1 kilometer, may soon
make the promise of billions of IoT devices a reality.
Standards based LoRaWAN networks are rolling out worldwide. Complete
coverage of nearly all EU countries is completed or underway and most
major network operators, including Bouygues, Orange, KPN, Proximus and
Swisscom, are deploying LoRa gateways in thousands of towers, driving
new roaming standards, leveraging unlicensed spectrum and aggressively
targeting enterprises. In Asia, SK Telecom has one of the first
commercial public LoRa networks and SoftBank (ARM), with partner
Actility, is deploying LoRa services in Japan. Public LoRa networks will
soon cover North America as Comcast's machineQ service is aggressively
expanding to 20 major US cities.
