BASF expands alkyl ethanolamines production with new plant in Antwerp

BASF has officially opened a new production facility for alkyl ethanolamines (AEOA) at its Verbund site in Antwerp, Belgium. This world-scale plant increases BASF’s global production capacity for AEOA products, including dimethyl ethanolamine (DMEOA) and methyl diethanolamine (MDEOA), by nearly 30%, raising the total capacity to over 140,000 metric tons per year.

The new plant is a key investment aimed at meeting the growing global demand for alkyl ethanolamines, which are essential intermediates used in gas treatment, water treatment, metalworking fluids, and the coatings industry. This expansion strengthens BASF’s position as a leading supplier of sustainable chemical intermediates and highlights its commitment to supporting its customers’ growth through innovative, eco-friendly solutions.

Ketan Joshi, president of BASF’s Intermediates division, emphasised that this investment aligns with the company’s strategy to be the preferred partner for sustainable intermediates. “This new plant expands our production network globally and supports our customers’ ability to grow sustainably,” he said.
