The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company or ADNOC announced that it has secured dexos1™ licensing for its high-quality base oil, ADbase, from U.S. automaker General Motors (GM). Additionally, ADNOC announced that it has received a license for GM’s DEXRON® VI Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).

Dexos1 formulation approval allows lubricant manufacturers to use ADbase to formulate their top-tier and high-performance engine oils. The dexos1 approval is important for lubricant marketers in North America, but GM also has a large market presence in China.

GM manufactures cars and trucks in 34 countries and sells them in more than 140 countries. These vehicles contain an array of more than 20 different engine sizes. To function well and to last a long time, these increasingly high-performance engines need consistently high-quality oils, and that quality and uniformity need to be available anywhere in the world.

The dexos^® specification is uniquely designed to complement the exacting requirements of GM’s advanced engine technology.  The most current dexos1™ specification (dexos1™ Gen 2) was released in 2015 to provide even higher engine performance and protection, particularly low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) protection in small displacement turbocharged engines.

DEXRON® VI ATF licensing allows ADNOC to offer U.S. lubricant manufacturers a high-quality base oil stock to formulate automatic transmission fluids which can provide superior friction durability, smooth performance and enhanced protection.
