ATIEL and UEIL achieve certification for carbon footprint methodology

ATIEL and UEIL have announced an industry-first milestone with the certification of their joint Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Calculation Methodology for lubricants, greases, and other specialities. The certification, carried out by TÜV Rheinland Energy GmbH, marks a significant step in standardising carbon footprint calculations across the industry and reinforces the methodology’s credibility for companies aiming to track and reduce their carbon emissions.

The methodology, first introduced in September 2023, provides a harmonised approach to calculating carbon footprints across the lubricants and specialities sectors, ensuring consistency and transparency across the value chain. With TÜV Rheinland’s certification, companies can now seek third-party validation of their PCF calculations, enhancing trust and collaboration within the industry.

“This certification by TÜV Rheinland is a groundbreaking achievement for the European and global lubricants industry,” said Mattia Adani, president of UEIL. “It underlines the importance of our joint efforts in shaping a sustainable future for our sector.”

Marco Digioia, president of ATIEL, added: “We are proud to see the joint methodology officially certified. This certification affirms our commitment to environmental responsibility and solidifies the role of all partners involved in advancing sustainability in the lubricants industry.”

This certification is expected to pave the way for further harmonisation of carbon footprint calculations across the global lubricants industry. The ATIEL and UEIL methodology can be accessed and downloaded from their respective websites.
