American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers publishes report on state of U.S. midstream infrastructure

The American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), based in Washington, D.C., has published a report on the current state of the midstream infrastructure in the United States. AFPM is a national trade association representing more than 300 companies that encompass virtually all U.S. refining and petrochemical manufacturing capacity.

“Today the United States is developing its energy resources at record levels, but to continue, our infrastructure must keep pace. AFPM members are investing billions of dollars in new infrastructure, but crucial investments rely on ensuring that federal policies provide regulatory certainty to efficiently build out a network that reliably delivers America’s energy and keeps our economy competitive,” said AFPM President Chet Thompson.

In 2017, approximately 43.3 million barrels of crude oil, refined products and natural gas liquids, and 79.1 billion pounds of plastic resins moved through the U.S. midstream infrastructure networks each day.

The report captures the current state of the U.S. midstream infrastructure, including the integrated system of pipelines, railroads, ports, waterways, roads and storage facilities, that is the backbone of the fuel and petrochemical product supply chains.

“Our midstream infrastructure ensures that everyone can benefit from our abundant natural resources,” Thompson said.
