Ford launches Figo Aspire at new Gujarat plant
Ford India has launched its latest offering, the Ford Figo Aspire Sedan, from its new plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The new plant will boost Ford’s capacity by 240,000 cars and 270,000 engines.
“With today’s opening of our new plant in Sanand, we have taken our growth commitment to a new high in India. We are also doubling our manufacturing capacity in India, creating good jobs and serving customers,” said Mark Fields, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company.
The company has invested more than USD 1 billion in its two plants in Sanand, which are spread over 460 acres.
The Aspire, which will be available in both a petrol (1.2L TiVCT petrol) and a diesel (1.5L TDCi diesel) engine variant, is expected to reach the market later this year. It is expected to have a six-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox for the top end EcoSport petrol.
“The Ford Figo Aspire was designed to meet the needs of Indian as well as global customers, who look for comfortable compact car, flexible and roomy interiors with features like excellent fuel efficiency and a low cost of ownership,” said Nigel Harris, president of Ford India.
Variants of the Aspire shall also be exported globally.
