Council vehicles to join biodiesel project

The Queenstown Lakes District Council in New Zealand will include its vehicles in a pioneering biodiesel project because of its branding potential. The Otago Polytechnic’s Centre for Sustainable Practice hopes to form a consortium of Queenstown businesses that will import biodiesel to the area for use in commercial vehicles and plant. Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Clive Geddes said he and the council would support the consortium. The scheme would be a good branding tool for the town as tourists become more conscious of the environmental credentials of the places they visit, he said. (November 4, 2009)
