German lube manufacturer launches Ravenol High Fuel Economy HFE SAE 5W-16 engine oil

Lubricant manufacturer Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb GmbH based in Werther/ Westphalia, Germany has launched a low viscosity engine oil with CleanSynto® technology called RAVENOL High Fuel Economy HFE SAE 5W-16.

The company says that innovative selection of additives for this advanced, low-viscosity lubricant, equips RAVENOL High Fuel Economy HFE SAE 5W-16 with properties that have a demonstrably positive effect on enhanced fuel saving and engine service life. RAVENOL High Fuel Economy HFE SAE 5W-16 contributes to protecting the environment by reducing emissions and saving fuel, the company adds.

Jens Passekel, product manager, says that RAVENOL High Fuel Economy HFE SAE 5W-16 is suitable for demanding engines. This fully synthetic, low-viscosity engine oil with the API SN category is recommended for modern automobile petrol engines and hybrid vehicles under all running conditions, if the engine manufacturer specifies a low-viscosity oil with the viscosity class 5W-16.

RAVENOL High Fuel Economy HFE SAE 5W-16 is based on the technology of tri-nuclear molybdenum and OFM (Organic Friction Modifiers), which was first used in the RAVENOL Extra Fuel Economy EFE SAE 0W-16, which was launched at the end of 2014.

RAVENOL Extra Fuel Economy EFE SAE 0W-16 was the first engine oil worldwide with the API SN category to be licensed and approved by Washington, D.C.-based American Petroleum Institute (API).

SAE International introduced SAE 0W-16 and 5W-16 to the SAE J300 standard which defines viscosity grades for engine oils in April 2013.  In October 2014, API Publication 1509 was revised to include SAE 0W-16 and 5W-16 in the API SN category, but without the fuel economy criteria which could not be set due to lack of sufficient data.
