China likely to unveil Phase V standard for gasoline emissions in September
China is likely to roll out its Phase V hazardous materials control standard for motor gasoline in September in order to improve air quality and reduce discharge of pollutants, according to a report published by China’s Economic Information Daily.
A draft of the Phase V standard was approved recently by the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Petroleum Products and Lubricants, according to the report.
China will introduce 89#, 92# and 95# octane gasoline rather than current 90#, 93# and 97# octane gasoline to ease the economic and supply burden on refineries, according to the draft.
Similar emission standards have been in effect in Beijing since March 1 this year.
China’s Standardization Administration would initiate the process of soliciting ideas and coordinating with other relevant ministries very soon, said Fu Wei, an official with the Science and Technology Development Department of the Sinopec Group.
China’s Cabinet, the State Council, has decided to issue the Phase V standard for gasoline emissions by the end of 2013, in a bid to upgrade the quality of petroleum products in the country.
