Oiltanking Nanjing opens rail car facility
Oiltanking Nanjing, a joint venture between Oiltanking, the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park (NCIP) Administration and the Port Authority of Nanjing, has opened and begun operations at its new rail car loading and unloading facility at its terminal in China’s Jiangsu province.
The rail facility features platforms with a capacity to handle up to 34 rail cars at one time. It has been designed to receive up to 9,000 rail cars a year.
It is connected to the NCIP railway network and from there to the national railway network. The addition of this rail facility means the terminal offers a variety of transportation options to its customers, including rail, road, water and pipelines.
In a statement, Oiltanking Nanjing says it expects that the facility will also handle large amounts of methanol because significant quantities are consumed within the Nanjing region. โThe terminal is set to become the ‘methanol hub’ of the region and the rail facility is designed to handle other products as well.โ
The Oiltanking Nanjing terminal is currently under expansion, slated for completion later this year. Once this project is finalized, the company says the terminal will feature 23 storage tanks with a total storage capacity of 139,000 cubic meters and two jetties for vessels up to 50,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage).
