Tasweeq CEO says Qatar is well positioned to meet global GTL demand

Saad Abdulla Al Kuwari, chief executive officer of Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Co. (Tasweeq), told delegates of the inaugural World GTL Congress that Qatar is prepared to meet the growing global demand for gas-to-liquid (GTL).
Al Kuwari noted that exports of Pearl GTL naphtha are expected to increase to more than one million tons per annum, and Oryx GTL naphtha exports would remain stable at around 300,000 tons. Aside from being one of the world’s largest exporters of naphtha, Qatar is now the world’s largest exporter of LPG and condensates.
Considered a premium petrochemical feedstock, GTL naphtha has a higher paraffin content than standard naphtha. As feedstock to a steam cracker, GTL naphtha has more benefits than conventional naphtha. GTL naphtha has shorter chains of five to nine carbon atoms, which allows plastic manufacturers to produce more plastic from every liter of GTL naphtha they use. (January 14, 2013)
