Guangzhou begins issuing subsidies for new energy vehicle purchases

In early December 2012, China’s southern city of Guangzhou began releasing subsidies for new energy vehicle purchases. China Business News reported that the subsidies were originally announced four months ago, after the city implemented policies that limited new automobile purchases. According to the new government policy, consumers who purchased new energy vehicles from August 1 onwards will receive CNY10,000 (US$1,591) in national subsidies.
The number of new energy vehicle sales in Guangzhou increased substantially after the new policies were announced. Significantly, there was a sharp increase in the sale of hybrid vehicle.
Out of 17,880 registration plates that Guangzhou awarded in December, 1,220 plates were used for new energy vehicles. (December 11, 2012)
