GM Korea invests KRW100 billion to produce turbocharged gasoline engines
Korea’s third-largest carmaker, GM Korea Co., the local unit of U.S.-based General Motors Co., is expanding its facilities to produce next-generation turbocharged gasoline engines at a cost of more than KRW100 billion (US$92.1 million). The new four-cylinder turbocharged engines will be produced at the company’s Bupyeong engine plant. Located west of Seoul, the facility is the third GM plant to produce the new engines. According to a statement released by the company, the engines will be installed in the companyโs small and compact cars, including the upcoming Trax SUV and other new Chevrolet models by the first half of 2013.
The Bupyeong factory will be GM’s third plant to produce the turbocharged gasoline engine. GM Korea President and Chief Executive Sergio Rocha said that GM is committed to exceed the expectations of car buyers who continue to make fuel efficiency and performance their priority. (November 22, 2012)
