Nissan to manufacture EV in Spain
Kyodo News reported that Japanโs Nissan Motor Company will manufacture electric vehicles which are based on its NV200 electric/commercial vehicle, at a plant in Barcelona, Spain, starting on the next business year which begins on April 2013. Nissan will invest โฌ100 million (US$125.2 million) for the production of the new electric vehicles (EV), which it plans to begin selling in 2014. The Japanese automaker said the NV200-based EV will deliver a driving range similar to the Leaf EV on a single charge. Nissan chose to produce the NV200-based EV at the Barcelona plant because the gasoline engine version of the NV200 is being produced there and exported to other European countries. But the new EV’s lithium-ion batteries will be produced in Britain. (May 23, 2012)
