Guangzhou to roll out Phase IV
Southern China’s Guangzhou city is to become the third city, after Beijing and Shanghai, to introduce Phase IV emission standards for gasoil and gasoline on June 1, the local newspaper New Express Daily reported. Beijing and Shanghai implemented Phase IV emission standards–broadly equivalent to Euro IV emission standards–on March 1, 2008 and November 1, 2009, respectively. The report said the Environmental Protection Department of the Guangdong province has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Environmental Protection saying it will be able to implement the Phase IV standard from June 1. A source at state-owned Sinopec Guangzhou, the only refinery in the city, said its 15.7 million metric ton per year (MTPY) refinery is capable of producing Phase IV emission standard gasoline and gasoil to meet the city’s demand, which is estimated at 3.5 million MTPY.
