BMW to invest US$1.44 billion to expand capacity in China

BMW announced that it will be investing US$1.44 billion to expand its production capacity in China. BMW plans to double the production capacity at its Tiexi plant in Shenyang. Its Da Dong facility will also be expanded. The two expanded plants will allow the company to produce 300,000 vehicles per year. BMW has reported a 70.1% increase in sales in China during the first four months of 2011 to 79,306 automobiles. China has become the company’s third largest market internationally. (May 9,2011)
