Envergent will design biomass-to-fuel plant in Malaysia
Envergent Technologies, a subsidiary of Honeywell International, announced that it has won the design engineering contract for a biomass-to-fuel plant in Malaysia from Premium Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd. The new plant will utilize Envergent’s Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) method which converts palm biomass into liquid biofuel to produce heat and electricity. It is expected that construction on the new plant will begin in 2011 and should be operational by the first quarter of 2013. The biomass-to-fuel plant will generate approximately 1,000 new jobs and US$1 billion in revenue per year by 2020. This new plant will be Malaysia’s first plant to use RTP for the production of biofuel from biomass. The plant is being built partly in response to the Malaysian government’s economic transformation program. (March 10, 2011)
